Hey Minimus! I can't explain, but I can tell you it is one of the reasons that I left. God preserved the bible for centuries and only now does he reveal anything to just the JW's? I don't think so. There are so many truthful, honest loving people who are doing their best to serve God and love each other, they can't be evil!!! Many times I thought how much greater their faith and love was than mine. That bothered me, and intrigued me. My experiences in field service also plagued me. I had so MANY passionate and knowledgeable people at the door that I talked with, especially as a young pioneer. Those conversations struck a nerve and waited for years to be annalized (sp?) and appreciated. People I never talked to again, profoundly affected my life with their testimonies and personal thoughts, even the angry ones! Respectively, Kitten Whiskers

If Jehovah Views JWs As His People Why Did He Entrust His Word To Others??
by minimus inwhy let the bible be assembled by catholics, jews and protestants???.
witnesses do not say god gave them the privilege of canonizing the scriptures or having anything to do with his word.
he entrusted the responsibilities to others that according to jw belief are deserving of destruction.....please explain..

Just a couple thoughts on the subject: 1. It takes a little while to settle in and get the hang of marriage and all the new responsibilities. I personally feel a thankyou within 6-8 weeks is a great accomplishment after such a momentous life event. The sooner the better, but I believe Miss Manners or Dear Abby gives up to a year.(Way too long imo, I believe you should send them as soon as possible) 2. At such a young age, does she have the money for postage? I would be surprised if she had 20 dollars left at the end of the week. Food and Housing come first. Maybe she is mailing out a few each week? 3. You could send her some blank monogrammed stationary, new bride = new initials! Maybe tell her you thought she might like it to send out her thank-you cards or to announce the couples new address. Hope it helps. She might just not be thinking clearly yet! That new husband is probably occupying most of her thoughts and time! I remember my mil mentioning something to me. I always try to send a prompt thankyou! It had only been 2 weeks, we had gone on a small honeymoon and our basement of our new house had flooded!!!! Don't judge too harshly. Maybe just casual conversation on how things are going, how the new responsibilities and joys of marriage are. Casually mention how you remember how hard it was starting off, getting your household running and wrapping up the end of the wedding responsibilities with writing thank you notes, ordering wedding pictures, getting the dress cleaned/sold, etc.....Good Luck! Please put your JW heads back on for a moment... (Memorial Meal)
by AlphaOmega insomething has been bugging me for ages about the non-participation of r&f jws in the memorial meal (sounds like a mcdonalds deal) !.
i've just worked out what it is.... only the "anointed" can partake of the emblems.. but at the original meal, as instituted by jesus, no one was anointed.
the anointing came at pentecost, after he had died !.

BTW--- I totally loved that point and had an "ah-ha" moment when I read it. Thanks for that thought!

I am hearing (in my JW head): "Well, Jesus could read the heart and he knew what their heart condition was and that Jehovah would most assuredly appoint them. He said it was up to the Father where they would sit (When they were arguing over who was the greatest and the mother of "the sons of thunder" asked that her sons' be on his left and his right in his kingdom), but was probably given divine assurance and insight. Afterall, he sent Judas away first, knowing he wouldn't receive entrance into the kingdom, but these were his closest followers. Being King of God's Kingdom, and giving the illustrations of the sheep and goats and others that they wouldn't understand until the light got brighter, he no doubt was trying to explain to them the two different hopes and classes of his followers. But as God shed light on the scriptures, we know understand, thanks to Jehovah, that there would be a cutoff point of those being called to the heavenly hope." I am now going to post this, without reading it, hoping I was of help, but feeling as if I could puke now. God I hate that hat. Kitten Whiskers (takes off hat and goes in search of the Pepto Bismal)

Addams Family and other TV Shows
by jws ini recently picked up a copy of the original addams family tv show on dvd because i loved the movies, but never saw the original tv shows because my parents would not let me for jw reasons (presumably for demonism, witchcraft, etc.).
i'm about 12 episodes in and i don't know why this was banned.
ok, there's thing (a hand/arm), and a bear skin rug that growls.

Your Addams family ban may have based on the mother of Morticia Addams, she called her "Ma Maw". There were episodes where "Ma Maw" would use a crystal ball and conjour spirits. It is played on "TV Land" on Comcast during the day, I have been able to watch it lately and was surprised when I saw her saw that episode. I didn't remember it from my youth. The Munsters is also played on TVLand.
I was allowed to watch quite a bit as a youngster (mom jw, father not), Casper the friendly ghost cartoon, Twilight Zone, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Scooby Doo, I dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Disney movies that included spells, but NOT Fantasia or Bedknobs and Broomsticks (still haven't seen those), Three's Company. -

I love hearing those stories. I am so glad you had a great granny. They really are the heart and soul of growing up if you get a good one! I would love to read more if you ever care to share any more stories. I remember some of these things myself with my grandma. Hugs to you, I know you miss her with all your heart. Your testimony to her life is better than any headstone could ever read. All we really want is to be remembered fondly by those we loved, and she accomplished that in a big way. Kitten Whiskers

Fighting dogs/brothers/my babies... Big dog owner suggestions?
by restrangled ini was out for a walk with my 2 dobies.
i always stay on my block because they are too large, too strong and have aggressive tendencies(both in different areas) they get walked in harnesses connected to each other.. they don't get walked often enough because they are powerful, frightening beasts, but after a few glasses of wine i got up my nerve and took them out yesterday.
(we have walked this route many times before with no problem).

Looks like you forgot to give them a glass of wine to unwind too! j/k Give your neighbors one, because I sure wouldn't want to be between 2 large aggressive dogs. I feel really bad for your older dobe. I personally would never keep an animal who shows an aggressive behavior like that. If I can't trust it, it doesn't deserve to be in my home. I know you love your dogs and they are your babies, but I have seen a dobe try to attack an old lady and I would have put it down. They are a huge scary beast when they are on the attack. Granted, dogs do tend to growl and defend their space, food, etc. My grandma has 2 dogs and they have a growl and bark fight now and again. I don't know what to tell you, but maybe individual walks from now on? Maybe there was a fight over marking territory as you walked them? Maybe they are like kids that way. I don't know. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but please be careful. You are very fortunate to have gotten help and no one else get hurt. I wonder if your vet could give you some advice or information. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. (sorry, can't get my paragraphs to work on this new laptop)

YOUR Good Deed....
by compound complex inthank you for your help in my time of need.
i woke up thinking of a childhood television program - "father knows best.
" in the episode most memorable to me, the youngest child, kitten (kathy) was sitting on a park bench next to an old man, chirping away in her usual chatty, happy way.

I can't remember all of them, but 17 years ago, one of my girlfriends in school, brought me a bouquet of daffodils in art class just to be nice. We had been talking about flowers in class and I mentioned something about being happy to see them at the end of winter. It was so thoughtful, unexpected and amazing. Here was one of my worldly school friends, who I couldn't celebrate anything with, just doing something nice as a friend. It really helped me through a hard time in my life to have that act of kindness. I wish I knew where she was today. As a JW I never kept up with her after graduation, but that special gift helped me feel like I had worth. I was so sad at heart back then. She had no idea how much it meant.

Restrangled, I haven't had this breed, but when we moved down to Georgia (college town), nearly every college girl in our apartment building had a Shitzu (sp?) Our current landlord is in her 70's and has one too. A nice little lap dog, friendly, good with the kids and barks when I ring her doorbell to alert her and then quiet the rest of the time. She has everyone pet her, and the ones that we would see at the apartments were always quiet and friendly, letting the kids walk up and pet them. I really like them. Hope that helps. Oh, I'm not sure, but I am assuming they must be good company and okay on their own during the day, seeing it was always single college girls that seemed to get them when they left mama and daddy's house. (I thought it was sweet of their parents to provide a warm comforter for their girls!)
